Angel and Lynette Ferrer

For more than a decade, Angel Ferrer has helped shape the future of Voices For Children as a dedicated member of our Board of Directors. Together, Angel and his wife, Lynette, have become steadfast champions for children and youth in foster care: leading through service, philanthropy, and community engagement.

As members of our 2027 Be A Hero Gala Committee, returning from the record-breaking 2026 Gala Committee, and through Merrill Lynch's support as a Protector Sponsor in our Be A Voice Annual Membership Program, the Ferrers continue to invest in changing trajectories and creating brighter futures for the children we serve.

We recently sat down with Angel and Lynette to learn more about what inspires their commitment to Voices For Children.

Tell us a little about yourselves.

Angel and Lynette: We are both Cuban descendants born and raised in Miami, Fl. We have been married for 19 years and have raised 5 children together. We both feel passionate about our community and honored to be a part of VFC (Voices For Children).

How did you first become involved with Voices For Children?

Our dear friend Vince Castro introduced us to Voices in 2014. He invited us to attend the annual Luncheon where we were both immensely touched by the testimonial given that day by one of the youths that VFC had impacted.

What inspired you to continue your support and become more deeply involved with Voices For Children?

After assessing what we witnessed at that luncheon event and attending our first Gala, we both agreed that VFC was the right organization for us to give back to our community. Angel then met with Vince and the then-CEO of the organization, Nelson Hincapie, and he accepted a position on the Board of Directors.

Why is supporting children and youth in foster care important to you personally?

We feel infinitely blessed that we had the means to support our children and were very motivated to do what we could to help those children in our community that were far less fortunate through no fault of their own.

Voices For Children believes in changing trajectories and creating brighter futures. What does that mission mean to you?

We completely agree with VFC mission statement and firmly believe that lives can be changed by providing these children with opportunities to make the most of their lives.

You've supported Voices For Children in so many ways over the years. Is there a moment, event, or experience that has stayed with you?

We love the annual Back to School event at Old Navy because it allows us the opportunity to interact with the children directly and seeing the smiles on their faces when they get to pick out new clothes and back packs for their upcoming school year is priceless.

Why do you believe it's important for businesses and community leaders to invest in organizations like Voices For Children?

Because there is no better way to invest in the future of our community than to try to help empower those that are less fortunate.

If you could encourage someone to become a Be A Voice member, sponsor an event, or get involved with Voices For Children, what would you say?

We would assure them that this organization delivers benefits directly to those in need and is run in a very fiscally responsible manner. It exemplifies Impact Giving and supports the most vulnerable in our local community.

What gives you hope for the future of the children and youth we serve?

The gratitude they share with us for the opportunities that we provide is heartfelt, and the successful outcomes that we see every day as a result of our efforts.

Finish this sentence: "Being a voice means..."

Advocating for children who are at a point in time in their lives where they feel like no one else is in their corner.
